Working to Build Peace and Stability

SPRiNG Programme’s Impact Across Nigeria

Since its inception in May 2024, SPRiNG has made meaningful strides toward a more peaceful and resilient Nigeria. With a minimum of 4,092 people directly benefiting from our activities, SPRiNG is already making a difference in regions most affected by conflict, inequality, and environmental stress.

Our work is driven by five key pillars, each targeting the systemic roots of instability while amplifying the voices and resilience of local communities.

Our Workstreams

SPRiNG focuses on addressing the root causes of conflict to promote long-term peace and stability in Nigeria. By tackling issues like security, social exclusion, and climate vulnerability, we work in partnership with local communities and institutions to create sustainable, transformative solutions. From strengthening institutions to empowering women and fostering cooperation between agricultural and pastoral communities, the programme is designed to promote peace and resilience in Nigeria.

Stories of Change

From climate innovation to policy influencing, these stories show how SPRiNG is contributing to building peace in Nigeria.

Security, Peace, and Justice Institutions

We’re working together with formal and informal peacebuilding institutions to enhance their capacity to manage, respond to and support non-violent dispute resolution. SPRiNG supports:

Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) systems to anticipate, manage and respond to threats

Community security initiatives

Alternative dispute resolution, dialogue, and reconciliation

By enhancing institutional capacity and trust, we’re helping communities respond more swiftly and peacefully to emerging conflicts.

Drugs, Weapons, Divisive Narratives, and Social Exclusion

Tackling the roots of violence
Instability is often fuelled by the unchecked spread of small arms, substance abuse, and narratives that divide. SPRiNG tackles these challenges by:

Supporting systems that limit the availability and use of drugs and small arms

Promoting inclusive dialogue that counters hate speech and disinformation

Empowering marginalized youth and persons with disability to reclaim their role in society

These efforts foster greater cohesion, reduce vulnerability to manipulation, and open pathways for constructive civic engagement.

Women, Peace, and Security (WPS)

Empowering women and girls as peacebuilders

Women are not just beneficiaries of peace they are drivers of it. SPRiNG champions gender equality and the protection of women through:

Advocacy for national and local implementation of WPS frameworks

Initiatives to combat conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV)

Livelihood and skills development programmes tailored for women and girls

By centering women and girls in peacebuilding efforts, we’re building more inclusive and equitable communities.

Agricultural and Pastoral Practice

Fostering cooperation and climate resilience
Agricultural and pastoral communities face increasing pressure from competition over land and changing climate patterns:

Community coalitions that promote best practices in resource sharing and cooperation

Capacity-building for institutions supporting adaptive agricultural and pastoral systems

Initiatives that strengthen food security and reduce livelihood-related conflict

The result: communities that work together instead of competing for survival.

Protecting the environment, securing the future

SPRiNG’s ecology and natural resource management work focuses on:

Promoting sustainable land use and NRM practices

Supporting inclusive governance frameworks that manage resources fairly

Helping institutions and communities better adapt to climate variability

With these efforts, SPRiNG is enabling long-term environmental resilience and reducing resource-based tensions.

Looking Ahead

SPRiNG’s impact is measured not just in numbers, but in the stories of individuals and communities gaining strength, confidence, and hope. By addressing conflict challenges through locally led, evidence-based action, we are contributing for a more stable, inclusive and peaceful Nigeria.

Our Impact

Head Office: SPRiNG head office in Abuja

Regional Offices: Katsina and Jos

SPRiNG has four focal states – Kaduna, Katsina, Benue and Plateau –  where the programme will have a strong but not exclusive focus.
