National Multistakeholder Dialogue on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TF-GBV)
In continued commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) Programme, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, UN Women Nigeria, and key development partners, convened a high-level National Multistakeholder Dialogue on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TF-GBV) in Abuja.
The dialogue brought together senior government representatives, civil society organisations, private sector actors, and leading experts in gender equality, women, peace and security, and digital safety. The event created a critical platform to move beyond awareness-raising and toward coordinated, multisectoral action to protect women and girls from harm in both online and offline spaces.
Advancing Collective Action Against Digital Violence
Discussions focused on the growing risks posed by technology-facilitated abuse and the urgent need for survivor-centred, inclusive, and accountable responses across sectors. Participants examined policy gaps, prevention strategies, reporting mechanisms, and the role of technology in both enabling and combating GBV.
Key contributions included:
- Government Leadership and Commitment
Representing the Honourable Minister for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with civil society and partners such as SPRiNG to strengthen prevention, improve reporting systems, and enhance state-level responses to GBV. - International Partnership and Accountability
Cynthia Rowe, Head of Development Cooperation, UK in Nigeria, highlighted the UK Government’s continued support for initiatives that strengthen accountability, improve survivor protection, and address gender-based violence in all its forms, including emerging digital threats. - SPRiNG’s Programme Commitment
Priscilla Ankut, SPRiNG Deputy Team Leader, underscored the programme’s dedication to tackling TF-GBV through evidence-driven advocacy, community-led solutions, and partnerships that promote safer digital environments for women, girls, and vulnerable groups. Driving Survivor-Centred Solutions Amina Akano-Bello, SPRiNG’s GEDSI Lead, led a pivotal panel discussion on the importance of inclusive, survivor-focused approaches and the necessity of coordinated responses across government, civil society, and the private sector to effectively address digital violence.
Strengthening Peace, Safety, and Resilience
The dialogue reinforced SPRiNG’s broader commitment to strengthening community resilience, supporting government partners, and promoting environments where all individuals — especially women, girls, and vulnerable groups — can live free from violence, both online and offline.
